António Franque has a Masters degree in Education and Development by the Institute of Education – University of London. Trained as a language teacher in 1982 by Eduardo Mondlane University – Mozambique – and after some years as a teacher of Portuguese language for secondary education, joined distance education in 1989 in the Ministry of Education.

Since then has been working with distance education. In 2007 was one of the first staff members of the newly National Institute of Distance Education – INED – the regulatory and accreditation body of Open and Distance Education in Mozambique. In 2014 INED worked with the Department of Art and Communication of Aveiro University in the set up of the accreditation system for distance education in Mozambique, which is in place now.

Since October 2015 with the sponsorship of FCT has been involved with the Doctoral Programme Multimedia in Education with the Department of Art and Communication of Aveiro University working on the theme Educação a Distância em Moçambique: realidade e potencial.
